3 Best Bars Near TTU
Anyone who attends Texas Tech University knows that Lubbock isn’t exactly the most exciting town to live in. Believe me, I grew up in Lubbock.
So when asked what there is to do when in Lubbock, most reply with: Drink. The one word that college students understand most (besides canceled).
Across from the TTU campus, there is a street by the name of Broadway. This street contains bars easily accessible to Texas Tech students — those of age of course. Some brave the Broadway shuffle (going to each bar in one night) and others are regulars to their favorite bar. I have ranked each bar, in my opinion, by most popular.
Crickets Draft House was the first bar I ever went to. They have plenty of beers on tap and usually have great specials. Sunday is the ideal day to go because of their $2 Rumple, Jager, and Fireball shots and free pool. They also offer brunch on Sundays, which is perfect because who doesn’t love brunch?
I prefer to go on Whiskey Wednesday’s when whiskey is on special, but they are reasonably priced and it’s always a good time. Crickets offers a wide variety of drink options (not just beer) and fun activities, such as Giant Jenga, shuffleboard, and PacMan.
Score: 10/10
Sidenote: I think I’m biased because I got my s/o’s number at this particular bar.
This bar really should be #1 if you asked another Tech student. However, a good quantity of people black out at this bar because of how strong their margaritas are (such as myself). If you’re looking for a strong rita and a crazy night, this is the place for you.
They also have great food! Best time to go to Chimy’s is Monday and Tuesday for all day happy hour; they offer $1 tacos, house margarita specials, and really cheap wells. Ask for a half & half margarita — you won’t regret it!
Chimy’s is a must on game days, but be warned: you could end up waiting in line for at least two hours. The only disadvantage about Chimy’s would be that they close at 12 a.m. instead of 2 a.m.
Score: 8/10
I used to frequent Mesquite’s because of their specials on buckets of beer. While they may have gotten rid of that special, I still love the atmosphere. They also have reasonable drink prices, especially on their wells. You can smoke in this bar, which I like, and they have nightly drink specials.
Mesquite’s has two upstairs areas and is a very casual bar. This is a fun bar if you are feeling especially risky. They offer shot roulette, which is a wheel they spin to determine what shot you’ll get if you’re having trouble deciding. The only downside I would say is sometimes waiting for a drink can take a while.

These are just my three favorites. Broadway has other bars if you find yourself not particularly liking one of these that I have suggested. I could give you all the recommendations in the world, but the only way to determine which bar is your favorite is by going there.
